About this position
The Technical University of Darmstadt is offering multiple fully funded PhD positions in the newly established Cluster of Excellence 'Reasonable Artificial Intelligence' (RAI), as part of the Hessian.AI initiative. The RAI cluster is dedicated to rethinking and redeveloping AI at its core, focusing on creating richer, more robust, and human-like AI systems. Four research labs are available: Active AI, Observational AI, Systemic AI, and Challenging AI, each addressing unique aspects of AI such as continual learning, multimodal perception, modular AI systems, and cognitive benchmarking. The program is highly interdisciplinary, involving supervisors from TU Darmstadt and partner universities, and offers access to state-of-the-art GPU resources.
PhD candidates will join a vibrant international research environment, participate in lab rotations during the first year, and be supervised by two professors. Applicants must have a strong background in computer science, AI, machine learning, or related fields, with excellent programming and English skills. The positions are fully funded, with comprehensive benefits including salary, leave, pension, and family support. The application deadline is November 16, 2025, for positions starting January 2026.
Interested candidates should apply online for a specific research lab and can find further details on the RAI and Hessian.AI websites.
