About this position

Buckinghamshire New University is offering a series of fully funded PhD studentships through the Vice-Chancellor’s Studentship Awards. These prestigious opportunities are available for research in areas including Digital Twin-Enabled Circular Additive Manufacturing, Co-creating Inclusive Physical Activity for Disabled Adults, Developing Professional Competencies for Safeguarding Victims of Sex Offender-Related Trauma, and Running Narratives for Drug and Alcohol Recovery. Each studentship covers full tuition fees and provides a £15,000 annual bursary for up to three years, supporting impactful and innovative research aligned with the university’s key priorities.

The Graduate School at Buckinghamshire New University is nationally recognised for its research culture, resources, and student support, offering a vibrant and inclusive environment for postgraduate researchers. The university welcomes applications from candidates with a 2:1 Honours degree or above in a relevant subject, or an equivalent overseas qualification. Direct PhD applicants are typically expected to hold a relevant Master’s degree with formal research training, but strong undergraduate applicants with evidence of research capability may also be considered. Professional experience, research practice, or publications can strengthen an application. All research students benefit from high-quality supervision, access to training and development, and a collaborative research community.

Applicants are required to submit a completed application form, a research statement, degree certificates, passport, and any supporting documents. Applications should be emailed to [email protected] by 20 April 2026. For full details and to access the application form, visit the BNU Graduate School website. The studentships are open to both UK and international applicants, and the final degree is awarded by Brunel University London, the university’s external awarding partner. The start date for successful candidates is 1 September 2026.

Key research areas include computer science, mechanical engineering, sociology, public health, and psychology, reflecting the interdisciplinary nature of the projects. The university’s research strengths span creative arts, technology, health, business, and education, with opportunities to engage in both traditional and practice-informed research. Funding covers tuition, a living stipend, and may include additional bench fees for specialised research needs. The Graduate School provides comprehensive support throughout the research journey, from application to completion.

For more information, visit the Graduate School website or contact Dr. Anahita Malek, Associate Professor and Head of Graduate School, via LinkedIn or the provided email address.
