Jianyu Xu, incoming Assistant Professor in the College of Computing and Informatics at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, is recruiting 2 fully funded PhD students for his new lab.

The group will work broadly on online learning and decision-making, with research motivated by generative AI and real-world decision systems. Current directions include sequential decision-making in GenAI, reliable AI evaluation and calibration, and machine learning for business (building on dynamic pricing). These are starting points, and students may explore related or new directions.

The ideal applicant has a strong foundation in mathematics and strong coding skills. Prior publications are welcome but not required. The supervisor is especially interested in applicants who have seriously engaged with a research problem or substantial project and can clearly explain the motivation, methods, challenges, and their own contributions.

Funding for admitted PhD students includes stipend, tuition, and insurance, subject to university and program policies.
