About this position

Funded PhD opportunity in cardiovascular research at the University Medical Center Hamburg-Eppendorf (UKE) within the international DFG-funded Research Training Group (IRTG) 3215, “Microdomains in Cardiac Disease.”

The programme is a German-French doctoral training network bringing together researchers from UKE and Université Paris-Saclay. It focuses on subcellular microdomains in cardiac disease and offers structured doctoral training in cardiovascular basic and translational research.

Available projects cover topics such as cAMP/cGMP signaling, arrhythmias, heart failure, atrial fibrillation, cardiomyopathy, cardiomyocyte calcium handling, proteasome regulation, and mitochondrial dysfunction. Applicants may apply for up to three of the twelve research projects.

The position is suitable for candidates with a Master’s, Diploma, or equivalent degree in biology, biochemistry, cell biology, physics, pharmacy, or related natural sciences. Medical graduates (MD / Dr. med.) may also apply. The post asks for excellent academic performance, prior research experience, very good English, strong motivation for cardiovascular research, and willingness to participate in research stays at the partner university.

Funding is provided as a 65% E13 salary under the German public service pay scale. The programme also includes joint German-French supervision, transferable skills training, seminars, workshops, retreats, and mandatory research stays at the partner institution.
