This prestigious opportunity is open to exceptional students interested in pursuing research that can influence health policy decisions at national and international levels. The studentship is available for the 2026/27 entry and will cover academic fees at either UK or international rates, along with a maintenance stipend for three years at the UKRI rate (£20,780 for 2025/26). CHE is one of the world’s largest and most successful health economics research centres, renowned for its high-quality research and vibrant academic environment. The centre’s mission is to conduct research capable of shaping health policy, and it attracts leading scholars and students from around the globe. The successful candidate will be registered through the Department of Economics and Related Studies and will benefit from a supportive, inclusive, and family-friendly work environment, as recognized by the Athena SWAN Silver award. Applicants are encouraged to propose research in one of the following prioritized topic areas: Socioeconomic inequalities in unmet needs for mental healthcare Leveraging routine data and generic decision models for rapid evidence-based decision making Preventive care and the use of mental health services Machine learning for causal inference in health policy assessment Digital health technologies in mental health care service delivery in the NHS Understanding lifecycle medicines value Exploring the value of in-silico trials in health technology assessment and policy Proposals in other areas of health economics will also be considered, but preference will be given to the listed topics. The supervisory team includes leading experts such as Dr Julia Hatamyar, Professor Andrea Manca, Laura Bojke, and others, offering a wealth of expertise and guidance. Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain, a good honours degree in a relevant subject (such as economics, health economics, or public health). A relevant master’s degree is desirable. Strong quantitative and analytical skills, as well as a keen interest in health economics research, are essential. International applicants may need to demonstrate English language proficiency.
