About this position

This funded postdoctoral position at the Lyon Neuroscience Research Center (CRNL), a CNRS and INSERM laboratory in Lyon, France, offers a unique opportunity to investigate the neural basis of effort-based decision-making. The project leverages recent advances in effective connectivity quantification and modulation to explore recurrent circuits between fronto-striatal structures and the motor cortex. The research employs a multimodal approach, combining computational modelling of decision behaviour, brain stimulation techniques, and MRI neuroimaging.

The CRNL is ideally located near the neuroimaging center, equipped with state-of-the-art facilities including a 3T MRI, a soon-to-be-installed 7T MRI, MEG, and PET scanners, and is adjacent to psychiatric and neurological departments. Lyon itself is a vibrant city, offering easy access to the French Alps, Mediterranean coast, and Paris.

The position is supervised by Dr. Gérard Derosière, INSERM Researcher. The initial contract is for one year, renewable for an additional year, with a starting date in September 2026 (flexible). Salary is competitive, with ~€2300 net per month for candidates with less than 2 years post-PhD experience and €2450+ net per month for those with more experience. French health insurance is fully covered, and additional benefits include reimbursement for public transportation.

Applicants must have a PhD in Neuroscience or a related field. Essential skills include proficiency in programming (Matlab, Python, and/or R), autonomy in problem-solving and independent thinking, and proficiency in English. Experience in brain stimulation is desirable, or candidates should be willing to learn. French language skills are a plus but not mandatory.
