The Alexander von Humboldt Foundation offers the Humboldt Research Fellowship for postdoctoral and experienced researchers from all nationalities and research areas. This prestigious fellowship enables researchers to conduct independent research in collaboration with a host at a German research institution of their choice. The program is part of Germany's Global Minds Initiative and is designed to foster diversity and gender balance in science, welcoming applications from underrepresented groups and all backgrounds.

Fellowships are available for postdocs (within four years of completing their doctorate or within six months of completion) and experienced researchers (within twelve years of completing their doctorate). Applicants must have a strong publication record and must not be German nationals or have resided in Germany for more than six months in the 18 months prior to application. A host researcher in Germany is required to provide a mentoring agreement and confirmation of research facilities. Two expert reviews are also necessary.

The fellowship provides a monthly stipend of €3,000 for postdocs and €3,600 for experienced researchers, along with additional benefits such as family allowances, health insurance subsidies, travel allowances, and language courses. The duration is 6–24 months for postdocs and 6–18 months for experienced researchers, with flexible start dates and the option to split the stay into up to three periods over three years. The program also offers extensive alumni support and opportunities for future collaboration.

Applicants must demonstrate good knowledge of German or English, depending on their research area. The application process is entirely online, and all documents must be complete and compliant with the foundation's specifications.
