About this position

The Health + Life Science Alliance Heidelberg Mannheim is offering Interinstitutional Postdoctoral Positions for 2026, based in Heidelberg, Germany. This prestigious program is designed for early-career researchers who have recently completed or are about to complete their PhD, MD, or MD/PhD in relevant fields. The Alliance brings together world-class research institutions in one of Europe’s largest biomedical research hubs, providing an excellent interdisciplinary scientific environment and access to high-end technologies and state-of-the-art labs.

Supported research areas include cancer research, cardiovascular research, neuropsychiatric diseases, genomics, synthetic immunology, molecular engineering, medical technologies, and novel applications of AI in health and life sciences. The program is unique in that applicants design their own research project, which must be supervised by at least two principal investigators (PIs) from different Alliance institutions, fostering strong interinstitutional collaboration and bridging basic and translational research.

Eligibility criteria require candidates to have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD completed no later than four months after the application deadline. Applicants must not have worked more than four months as a postdoc at any Alliance institution involved in the project. A minimum of one first-author publication is required. Applicants must secure a letter of support from at least two Alliance PIs and prepare a comprehensive research project proposal. The application package should include a cover letter, CV, publication list, degree certificate, and two reference letters, all compiled into a single PDF file.

The Alliance provides funding for two-year postdoctoral positions, with clinician scientists receiving 12 months of funding over 24 months during their specialist medical training. The program offers an outstanding opportunity to build cross-institutional collaborations, position oneself for future EU grants, and work at the forefront of biomedical research. The application deadline is March 31, 2026, with start dates between August 1, 2026, and January 1, 2027.

For more information, applicants are encouraged to visit the program website, download the necessary templates and guides, and contact potential PIs early to secure support letters. This is an ideal opportunity for researchers interested in cancer research, genomics, AI in health sciences, and related fields to advance their careers in a vibrant, collaborative environment.
