About this position

Letten Visiting PhD Studentship at LSE Law School

Applications are open for a visiting PhD studentship at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE), Law School, for Winter Term 2027. This opportunity is aimed at advanced-stage PhD students whose research focuses on Indian equality law and anti-discrimination law.

The successful visitor will work under the mentorship of Professor Tarun Khaitan and join LSE’s research community through seminars, workshops, and reading groups. During the visit, the student is expected to complete a 10,000-word PhD chapter and participate actively in the academic life of the School.

Funding is provided through the Letten Prize awarded to Professor Khaitan in 2018. The award covers economy-class return travel to London from the applicant’s place of ordinary residence, visa costs, accommodation, and a contribution to basic living expenses.

Eligibility highlights: applicants should be in their second, third, or final year of the PhD and must still hold PhD status at the time of the visit. Candidates from under-represented backgrounds are especially encouraged to apply.

Application deadline: 19 June 2026, 5pm (BST). Applicants must submit one PDF containing a CV (max 2 pages), cover letter, contact details for two academic referees, a PhD outline (up to 1,000 words), an outline of the chapter to be finalised (500 words), and an email from the lead supervisor granting permission for the visit.

Send completed applications and enquiries to [email protected]. Late applications will not be accepted.
