About this position

PhD Supervisor: Ali Elham

Project description:

We are seeking a motivated PhD candidate to join our research team in the application of machine learning techniques to revolutionize aerospace design. This position will focus on developing intelligent algorithms to optimise various aspects of aerospace systems, including aerodynamic performance, structural efficiency, and system-level integration. The research will involve leveraging big data, advanced computational methods, and AI to streamline the design process, enabling faster, more efficient, and innovative aerospace solutions.

We are particularly looking for UK national students, either having or expecting to achieve a first-class degree in aerospace engineering. Applicants should have a strong academic background in aerospace engineering, or a closely related discipline, with experience in machine learning, data analytics, or optimisation techniques. Programming skills and familiarity with aerospace design principles will be advantageous. The successful candidate will work in a collaborative, interdisciplinary environment, gaining exposure to cutting-edge research and industry collaborations. If you’re passionate about using AI to solve complex engineering challenges and shape the future of aerospace, we encourage you to apply.

You will join a leading Engineering Faculty with an excellent record of collaborative research with industry and academic institutions in the UK and abroad. In September 2013, the School of Engineering received an Athena SWAN Bronze award in recognition of our continued commitment to improving women's equality in science and engineering.

The Faculty offers exceptional research facilities in fluids, structures, and their interactions, including a new world-class fluid dynamics facilities complex in the Boldrewood Engineering Campus, complete with a 138m towing tank.

If you wish to discuss any details of the project informally, please contact:

Prof. Ali Elham at or +44 (0) 238059 6044.
