About this position
An exciting master's internship opportunity is available at IFREMER – UMR BEEP, RDT, UMR LEMAR (CNRS), with the support of ISblue, focusing on the development of low-cost planar optodes on Raspberry Pi for in situ oxygen and fluorescence measurements. The project, titled Optopi-in situ, aims to advance chemical imaging and scientific instrumentation for marine environmental research. The internship will be based at Brest harbour, with test sites in Lanveur (bay of Daoulas) and Lanvéoc, France.
Key research areas include planar optodes, chemical imaging, optics, fluorescence, dissolved oxygen measurements, scientific instrumentation, embedded systems, open-source hardware, software development, data analysis, optical engineering, electronic engineering, computer engineering, marine environment, biogeochemistry, and ecophysiology. The intern will be responsible for finalizing the laboratory prototype, linearizing the luminous flux, conducting software and data analysis, completing prototype documentation, modeling and constructing a marinized version of the optopi device, and testing the prototype both in the laboratory and in situ.
Applicants should be pursuing an engineering or master's degree in a relevant field such as optics, chemical imaging, scientific instrumentation, embedded systems, or related disciplines. Experience with Raspberry Pi, open-source hardware, software development, data analysis, optical or electronic engineering, and a strong interest in marine environments and biogeochemistry are highly valued. The position is supervised by Dr. Nidhal HNAIEN (Assistant Professor, University of Monastir) and Dewi Langlet (IFREMER).
While the internship gratuity and start date are not specified, this opportunity provides hands-on experience in cutting-edge marine instrumentation and environmental science research. To apply, contact Dewi Langlet at [email protected] with your CV and a brief motivation statement. For more information, refer to the LinkedIn post or reach out to the supervisors.
