École de technologie supérieure (ÉTS) in Montréal is advertising a funded Master’s student position in Additive Manufacturing within the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

The project is titled “Design and Characterization of Functionally Graded and Interpenetrating Metallic Composites by Additive Manufacturing”. The student will work on laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) systems for fabricating metallic composites and graded structures, use an in-situ thermal camera for thermographic imaging during laser passes, and apply MATLAB and/or Python for data analysis and numerical modeling of mechanical behavior. The role also includes advanced materials characterization using optical microscopy, SEM/EDS, EBSD, and X-ray techniques to study microstructure and phase distribution in printed parts.

Applicants should have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in mechanical engineering or materials engineering and a strong interest in applied research. Experience in numerical analysis and/or image processing is desirable, and proficiency in MATLAB or Python is preferred. Knowledge of characterization methods for metallic materials is an asset.
