Université de Sherbrooke is advertising a Masters / PhD opportunity in remote sensing and large-sample hydrology applied to river morphodynamics with Prof. Anya Leenman in Sherbrooke, Québec, Canada.

The project focuses on river mobility, fluvial geomorphology, hydro-climate extremes, satellite remote sensing, GIS, big-data approaches, and explainable AI. Possible research directions include satellite remote sensing of river mobility and geomorphic change, large-sample hydrology and explainable AI for hydrology/geomorphology, and experimental or field-based investigations of geomorphically-effective floods.

Funding is described as a scholarship of 20,000 CAD/year for Masters students (2 years) or 24,000 CAD/year for Doctorate students (3-4 years), plus domestic tuition coverage. The student is also expected to apply for external scholarships from major funding bodies such as NSERC and FRQ.

Eligible applicants should have a background in geography, geology, environmental science, engineering, or a related field, with strong interest in river dynamics, remote sensing, GIS, large-sample statistics, explainable AI, and programming in R or Python. Good communication skills are also emphasized.
