About this position

Two open PhD positions in Mathematical Statistics with non-Euclidean dataThe ‘Stein-based goodness-of-fit TEsts for Non-Euclidean Data’ (STENED) project seeks to hire two fully-funded PhD fellows expected to start in January 2025 (preferably) or June 2025 at the latest.Application deadline on 15 November 2024.One of the main objectives of STENED is to leverage Stein’s method to create an overarching inferential toolbox for parametric and semiparametric distribution models defined on non-Euclidean supports. The pursuit of this goal involves developing cutting-edge mathematicalstatistics and computational methods. The STENED project is funded through the ‘AEI-DFG Call for Joint Spanish-German Research Projects’ and is jointly participated by the Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) and Universidad Carlos III de Madrid (UC3M). The project is co-led by Dr. Bruno Ebner (KIT) and Dr. Eduardo García Portugués (UC3M).One PhD position is offered at KIT, and another PhD position is offered at UC3M. The work locations are at the Institute for Stochastics (Karlsruhe, Baden Württemberg, Germany) and the Department of Statistics (Leganés, Community of Madrid, Spain), respectively. We offer: * Two 3-year PhD contracts, each with a possibility of an additional year extension.* Competitive salaries in KIT and UC3M, respectively.* In KIT: the position is 75% TV-L E13.* In UC3M: a gross yearly salary of €21,000.* Funding for yearly research stays at KIT and UC3M, and at other universities.* Funding for attending conferences.* An exciting working environment with other motivated PhD students. We look for candidates with: * Master in Mathematics, Statistics, or comparable studies (orcompletion in 2024/2025).* Outstanding academic record.* High motivation. To apply for the position, send your CV, academic records, motivation letter, and a list of two referrers to both [email protected] and [email protected] before the application deadline on 15 November 2024. Send possible questions to both email addresses.
