About this position

The University of Oxford's Mathematical Institute is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Associate to join a research group led by Professors Jon Keating and Louis-Pierre Arguin. This 3-year, fixed-term position is funded by the UK Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC) and focuses on exploring connections between probability and number theory, particularly within the context of the EPSRC grant 'Extreme Values of Complex Systems: Random matrices and L-functions.' The successful candidate will engage in research related to random matrix theory, analytic number theory, probability, and statistical physics, working both independently and collaboratively with group members and international mathematicians. Responsibilities include contributing to the Random Matrix Theory research group, publishing research findings, and participating in departmental teaching (up to three hours per week during academic terms).

Applicants should have, or be close to completing, a PhD in mathematics or a related discipline, with expertise in random matrix theory, analytic number theory, or probability. Strong communication skills are required for writing publications, presenting research, and representing the group at meetings. The department values diversity and encourages applications from women and BME candidates.

Applications must be submitted online, including a statement addressing the selection criteria, a CV with publications, a research interests statement, and contact details for three referees. The deadline for applications is 12.00 noon UK time on 1 December 2025, with interviews expected the following week. Informal enquiries can be directed to the Recruitment Coordinator.
