About this position

CS@max planck is a highly selective doctoral program offering full financial support to admitted students pursuing research in computer and information science. The program is hosted by the Max Planck Graduate Center for Computer and Information Science and involves collaboration with leading Max Planck Institutes and top German universities. Students begin their studies at the Saarland Informatics Campus in Saarbrücken, where they can explore various research areas through immersion labs before selecting a research topic and advisor. The program emphasizes flexibility, allowing students to collaborate across groups and institutes.

The research environment is internationally renowned, with world-class faculty and access to cutting-edge facilities in fields such as algorithms, artificial intelligence, machine learning, big data, computer architecture, computer vision, cyber security, and more. All admitted students receive full financial support, including tuition and a stipend, and benefit from an English-speaking, multicultural, and diverse working environment. Admission is highly competitive, requiring a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science or a related field, an outstanding academic record, proficiency in English, and strong letters of recommendation. Prior research experience is welcome but not required, and GRE scores are encouraged.

Applications are accepted only through the online system, and references are requested after an initial review. The program also provides resources for living and working in Germany, including guidance on visas, health insurance, housing, and transportation.
