About this position

The Max Planck Society (Max‑Planck-Gesellschaft zur Förderung der Wissenschaften e. V.) is a renowned independent, non-profit research organization dedicated to advancing basic research across a broad spectrum of disciplines. With 85 Max Planck Institutes and over 26,000 employees, the Society is a leader in life sciences, natural sciences, humanities, social sciences, and law, fostering innovative and interdisciplinary research.

The Max Planck Postdoc Program offers postdoctoral positions at participating Max Planck Institutes throughout Germany. This program is designed to attract outstanding early-career researchers from around the world and support their academic and professional development. Successful candidates will join a vibrant international community and benefit from a minimum three-year contract, a supervision agreement tailored to postdoc guidelines, and payment and benefits according to the TVöD (wage agreement for public service personnel) guidelines.

Postdocs in the program receive comprehensive mentoring, including a second mentor in addition to their primary supervisor, ensuring guidance and support throughout their tenure. Career development is a central focus, with mandatory participation in a career workshop offered by the Planck Academy and access to further training and courses specifically designed for postdocs.

The Max Planck Society values diversity and inclusion, actively promoting equal opportunities regardless of gender, nationality, ethnic origin, religion, disability, age, sexual orientation, social background, or family responsibilities. Applications from individuals with severe disabilities are strongly encouraged.

Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent and be at an early stage of their academic career. The application process requires a cover letter, CV and publication list (combined in one PDF), summary of previous research experience, a statement of interest and motivation (up to 2000 characters), and the email addresses of 2–3 references for recommendation letters.
