About this position
I am still hiring for this PhD position in my lab. If you have a strong background in the relevant areas and are interested in joining our research team, I encourage you to apply.
I am hiring!
My research lab, Laboratory for Fluid-Structure Interaction Studies at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, invites applications for a fully funded PhD position starting as early as Fall 2025. The position includes full tuition support and a competitive stipend.
We are seeking highly motivated, reliable, and self-driven candidates with strong interests and background in fluid mechanics, structural dynamics, and fluid-structure interactions (FSI). Our group focuses on experimental and theoretical research at the intersection of these disciplines, with applications in marine energy, bio-inspired systems, and structural response to complex flows.
Required Qualifications
· Master’s degree in mechanical engineering.
· Strong understanding of fluid mechanics, vibrations, and structural dynamics, demonstrated through graduate coursework or prior research.
· Hands-on experience in experimental setup design, instrumentation, measurement, and data analysis.
· Solid programming background in MATLAB.
· Clear motivation for conducting high-impact research and publishing in peer-reviewed journals
Note: While experience in CFD is valuable, this position prioritizes candidates with experimental expertise.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience with flow visualization techniques, such as Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV).
· Background in fluid-structure interactions, flow-induced vibration, and nonlinear dynamics.
· Publication in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals.
Interested candidates should complete the Qualtrics form linked below.
