About this position

This full-time Postdoctoral Associate position is available in the laboratory of Dr. Yolanda Huang in the Department of Microbiology & Immunology at the University at Buffalo. The lab's research aims to advance molecular-level understanding of the gut microbiota, focusing on microbial functions that enable bacteria to colonize and survive in the gut environment. Key projects include investigating carbon metabolic pathways and genetic determinants of bacteria-phage interactions in Bacteroidales.

The research utilizes advanced techniques such as DNA barcoding, short and long read sequencing, and high-throughput functional genomics. The successful candidate will lead research projects, develop new protocols, mentor students, present research outcomes, and publish findings.

The lab values mentorship and career development for all members. Candidates should have a PhD in microbiology, biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field, with demonstrated research productivity. Expertise in microbiology of anaerobes and phages, assay development, functional genomics, sequencing data analysis, -omics techniques, bioinformatics, biochemistry, and analytical chemistry (HPLC, LC-MS) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities include conducting experiments independently, establishing new protocols, recording experimental details, interpreting data, communicating findings, participating in group meetings, writing manuscripts, assisting with research proposals, presenting at conferences, mentoring lab members, and performing lab maintenance. The position offers a competitive salary range of $55,000 - $65,000 per year and is based at the Downtown Campus.

The University at Buffalo and the Research Foundation are committed to equal opportunity and affirmative action. Applications are accepted until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a cover letter, resume, and contact information for three references via the University at Buffalo job portal.
