About this position

MS and PhD positions are open in Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at Utah State University, in the Kaundal Artificial Intelligence & Advanced Bioinformatics Laboratory (KAABiL) / Center for Integrated BioSystems. The project focuses on host-pathogen interactions, especially poultry-HPAI (highly pathogenic avian influenza) systems, with an emphasis on computational methods for understanding pathogen invasion, identifying conserved interaction networks, and supporting host-targeted antiviral discovery.

The lab is looking for motivated students to join research on genomics, machine learning, systems bioinformatics, and computational modeling. Research directions include computational mapping of avian-HPAI host-pathogen interactions, proteomic and transcriptomic approaches, in silico drug target identification, structure-based screening, molecular docking, virtual screening, molecular dynamics simulations, and building a public database and predictive tools for exploratory research.

Eligibility highlights: MS applicants should have a BS in Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Math/Stats, or a related life sciences field. PhD applicants should have an MS in Bioinformatics, Biology, Computer Science, Engineering, Math/Stats, or a related life sciences field. Applicants should have programming experience in Python, R, Java, C/C++, or Perl, plus Linux/UNIX skills. Strong problem-solving, communication, teamwork, and self-learning abilities are expected. Preferred experience includes computational biology, genomics, bioinformatics, machine learning, large-scale data analysis, PINs, graphical models, and Bayesian networks.

Application: Send a current CV, a brief statement of research interests, and contact information for at least three references to Dr. Rakesh Kaundal at [email protected]. The post does not mention a deadline or funding package.
