About this position

Dalhousie University’s Livestock Genomics Research Group is advertising three research openings starting in September 2026 at the Agricultural Campus in Truro, Nova Scotia. Domestic and international applicants are welcome.

The opportunities span animal genomics, quantitative genetics, livestock breeding, statistical genomics, machine learning, and bioinformatics:

1) MSc – Pig Genomics & Machine Learning (2 years): Apply statistical genomics and machine learning to whole-genome sequence data to improve economically important pig traits. Applicants should have a BSc in animal science, genetics, or a related field. R/Python experience, or willingness to learn, is essential.

2) MSc/PhD – Mink Genetic Evaluation Systems (3–4 years): Develop and implement modern genetic evaluation pipelines for the North American mink industry. Required preparation includes a strong foundation in BLUP, mixed models, and genetic evaluation software such as BLUPF90+ and ASReml.

3) Postdoctoral Researcher – Mink Genomics & Genetic Evaluation (2 years): Lead genomic data processing, prediction pipelines, and breeding program design, and mentor a PhD student. A PhD in quantitative genetics, bioinformatics, or animal breeding is required, together with a strong publication record.

All positions are NSERC/Mitacs-funded and include HPC access, large-scale genomic datasets, industry collaboration across North America, and conference travel support. The MSc roles provide annual funding of $25,000–27,500 CAD/year and $27,500–35,000 CAD/year; the postdoctoral role offers a competitive salary.

Deadline: May 30, 2026. Applications should be emailed to [email protected] and [email protected].
