MSc Thesis Opportunity: Modelling Nitrogen Leaching from Vegetable Fields in Switzerland.

This MSc opportunity is hosted by the Water Protection and Substance Flows Research Group at Agroscope in Zurich-Reckenholz, Switzerland. The project focuses on improving the assessment of nitrogen leaching from vegetable production systems using high-resolution lysimeter data and the DAISY agroecosystem model.

The research is well suited to students interested in Agriculture, Environmental Science, and agro-environmental modelling. The work includes reviewing existing DAISY crop parameterizations for vegetable crops, preparing and analyzing lysimeter datasets, calibrating vegetable crop files in DAISY, evaluating model performance against observations, and conducting sensitivity analyses of key crop parameters.

The position is based in Zurich-Reckenholz, Switzerland, with a start date of 1 July 2026 or later and a duration of 6–12 months. The working language can be English or German.

This is a strong opportunity for an MSc student who wants hands-on experience in nutrient management, water quality research, and modelling water and nitrogen dynamics in vegetable systems.
