About this position
The Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (ICN2) is seeking a Neuroengineering Postdoctoral Researcher to join the Nanomedicine Lab in Bellaterra, Barcelona, Spain. This position is funded through the prestigious Horizon Europe - ERC Synergy Grant and offers a unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in neurotechnology and nanomedicine.
The successful candidate will focus on the development and assessment of neurotechnology for invasive brain-computer interfaces. Key responsibilities include in vitro evaluation of electrophysiology neural probes for recording and stimulation, including electrochemical characterization of impedance and charge injection limits. The role also involves preparing and executing in vivo electrophysiology experiments using animal models, in close collaboration with experimental neuroscientists. A central task will be leading the analysis of electrophysiological data, including signal quality and biomarker detection, from preclinical studies across various disease models. Notably, the position does not require a license for preclinical model experimentation.
The Nanomedicine Lab at ICN2 is dedicated to advancing fundamental knowledge in nanomedicine by integrating nanotechnology, bioengineering, and pharmacology for clinically relevant therapeutics and diagnostics. Research lines include nanomaterials for cancer and neurodegenerative disease applications, translation of advanced materials to the clinic, and the development of novel liposome and vesicle systems for oncology and neurology. The lab is also pioneering neurotechnology based on flexible, thin-film materials for therapeutic use.
As part of the ERC Synergy Grant, the lab is co-developing the SKIN2DTRONICS project, which aims to create ultra-conformable, skin-like electronic devices using two-dimensional materials to revolutionize brain cancer monitoring and tumor recurrence detection. This collaborative project involves partners from Università di Pisa, Instituto de Ciencia de Materiales de Madrid-CSIC, and École Polytechnique Fédérale de Lausanne. The Nanomedicine Lab also maintains strong collaborations with the Center for Nanotechnology in Medicine at The University of Manchester.
Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent in biological sciences, medical sciences, physics, or neurosciences. Experience in electrophysiology, neurotechnology, and preclinical studies is preferred. Strong collaborative and analytical skills are desirable. The position is full-time (37.5 hours per week) and based in Bellaterra, Barcelona.
The application deadline is 14 March 2026. Interested candidates should apply online via the ICN2 job portal and prepare their CV and supporting documents. For further information, contact [email protected].
