Assistant Professor Nicolas Peleato at The University of British Columbia is inviting applications from motivated graduate students for PhD and MASc openings on an industry-supported project.

The research focuses on modeling how drinking water source quality may change under different climate change scenarios. The project uses historical data from utility partners together with climate change modelling to support proactive decisions about major capital upgrades and operations for local infrastructure.

This opportunity sits at the intersection of Environmental Science, Civil Engineering, Computer Science, and Statistics. The ideal candidate does not need to be an expert in everything, but should be excited to bridge water science and data science. Relevant interests include machine learning, data science, time-series forecasting, Python, drinking water treatment processes, source water quality dynamics, climate projections, weather generators, scenario analysis, and infrastructure vulnerability/risk assessment.
