The Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards present an exceptional opportunity for international PhD students and postdoctoral researchers to pursue advanced research in Canada. The awards are designed to attract top talent in eight strategic areas: advanced digital technologies (including AI, quantum, and cybersecurity), health and biotechnology, clean technology and resource value chains, environment and climate resilience (including the Arctic), food and water security, democratic and community resilience, manufacturing and advanced materials, and defence and dual-use technologies.

Doctoral scholarships are valued at $40,000 per year for three years, while postdoctoral research awards offer $70,000 per year for two years. The program is funded by the Canadian government and administered by the three federal research funding agencies: CIHR, NSERC, and SSHRC. In total, 600 doctoral and 400 postdoctoral awards will be distributed through Canadian universities, with nominations managed by researchers holding active grants from these agencies.

Applicants must demonstrate outstanding academic achievement and research potential in one of the priority areas. Eligibility requires nomination by a Canadian researcher (nominator) with an active grant from CIHR, NSERC, or SSHRC. Institutions will submit applications on behalf of the nominator, and the awards will be delivered in two phases, with the first deadline on January 10, 2026. Initial results will be announced by April 1, 2026, and a second phase will begin thereafter to redistribute unused nominations.
