About this position

CRC 1785 Generalised Motivic Methods in Geometry at the University of Regensburg is inviting applications for PhD and postdoc positions in a new DFG Collaborative Research Centre running for the first funding period from 10/2026 to 06/2030.

The CRC brings together researchers from Regensburg, Augsburg, TU Munich, and Mainz, with additional participation from Hamburg. The research spans algebraic/arithmetic geometry, topology, Riemannian geometry, homotopy theory, higher category theory, geometric topology, symplectic geometry, and related areas of modern mathematics.

PhD positions are offered as 75% E13 appointments for three years, starting in 10/2026 or a few months later, with no teaching obligation. Postdoc positions are offered as 100% E13 appointments for one year up to the full funding period ending in 06/2030, also without teaching obligation.

The CRC offers a lively international research environment, specialised courses and seminars, travel support, guest and workshop funding, key skill courses, and opportunities to gain teaching experience. Women and members of underrepresented groups are especially encouraged to apply. No German language proficiency is required.

Applicants should have a solid background in at least one of the CRC’s core areas and an interest in collaboration across projects. PhD applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, publication list if available, MSc thesis or project description, diplomas/transcripts, and contact details for two academic references. Postdoc applicants should submit a cover letter, CV, publication list, research statement, PhD certificate or expected completion date, and contact details for two academic references.

The application deadline is 19 June 2026. Applications should be sent as a single PDF by email to [email protected].
