About this position

New opportunities are open in the Netherlands Institute for Neuroscience for research on mesoscale cerebellar MRI in the group of Wietske van der Zwaag and the Ultra-High Field Neuroimaging / Spinoza Centre for Neuroimaging environment in Amsterdam.

The project aims to bring the cerebellar mesoscale organization into view by bridging micro- and macro-scale brain organization using advanced 7T MRI, multimodal submillimetre imaging, and image analysis. The PhD project focuses on visualizing functional subunits in the cerebellar cortex, including high-resolution morphological and functional imaging. The postdoc project focuses on ultra-high-field, high-resolution cerebellar imaging, including pTx, structural and vascular contrasts, and advanced analysis to visualize results on the cerebellar surface.

PhD opening: applicants should have or be about to receive an MSc in biomedical engineering, physics, biology, or a related field; a strong interest in MRI or medical imaging is required, and interest in the human cerebellum or high-resolution imaging is a plus. English proficiency and teamwork are required; Python/MATLAB and pulse sequence development are advantageous.

Postdoc opening: applicants should have or be about to receive a PhD in MR physics or a closely related field; familiarity with 7T MRI and/or the Philips sequence development platform is preferred. English proficiency is required, and interest in high-resolution imaging or the human cerebellum is a plus.

Both positions are full-time (38 h/week). The PhD is for 4 years with a 1-year initial contract and salary from €3,059 to €3,881 gross/month. The postdoc is for up to 32 months total with a 1-year initial contract and salary from €3,546 to €5,538 gross/month. Both include standard Dutch university/KNAW benefits such as vacation allowance, year-end bonus, and other allowances.

Deadline: 5 June 2026. Apply with a motivation letter and CV via the vacancy pages. First-round online interviews are planned for later in June.
