About this position

The University of Geneva, in collaboration with Hôpitaux Universitaires de Genève (HUG), is offering exciting PhD and postdoctoral positions in the field of neuroscience, focusing on the project "Neural Pathways of Dynamic Binding in Language." This project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF), is led by Prof. Nina Kazanina and Assistant Prof. Pierre Mégevand. The research will utilize advanced neurophysiological techniques, including MEG and intracranial EEG recordings, to investigate the mechanisms of syntactic binding and relational binding in language and vision.

Applicants should have a strong background in neuroscience, medicine, psychology (including computational or psycho-linguistics), electrical or biomedical engineering, or a related field. The ideal candidate will possess a broad understanding of the fundamentals of language, especially in the domain of syntax and semantics, as well as the neurobiology of language, memory, vision, and thought. Experience with data processing and analysis (Python, R, MATLAB), electrophysiological recordings (scalp or intracranial EEG, MEG, MRI), and proficient writing skills are required. The ability to work collaboratively and share knowledge is essential. The working language is English, but knowledge of French or willingness to learn is considered an asset.

The positions are hosted by the Department of Basic Neuroscience at the University of Geneva, which is also the host department for the NCCR Evolving Language. The university provides a vibrant context for research on language, and the Human Neuroscience Platform offers access to state-of-the-art facilities for neuroscience research. Both PhD and postdoc positions are full-time, renewable for up to four years, and offer competitive salaries in line with university pay scales. The starting date is in the spring of 2026.

To apply, candidates should prepare a single PDF file containing a research/motivation statement, a CV with the names of three referees, and 1-2 sample publications (or a research project description for PhD applicants). Applications should be submitted via the provided tinyurl link by March 2, 2026. For further inquiries, applicants can contact Prof. Nina Kazanina at [email protected] with the subject "SNSF_Relations position enquiry."

This is an excellent opportunity for candidates interested in neuroscience, language, vision, and advanced neurophysiological methods to join a leading research group at the University of Geneva and contribute to cutting-edge research funded by the SNSF.
