About this position

Texas A&M University’s Chu Biotechnology Lab in the Zachry Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering is recruiting for PhD and postdoctoral positions starting in Fall 2026.

The research focus is PFAS (per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances) in environmental systems, including the fate, transport, removal, and biodegradation of PFAS in soil, biosolids, water, and plants. The lab also works on microbial-mediated processes and environmental biotechnology more broadly, with related interests in microbiology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, and pollutant treatment.

PhD applicants should have a Master of Science degree in environmental engineering, environmental microbiology, or a related field, plus experience in laboratory methods for microbiology, molecular biology, synthetic biology, bioinformatics, or modeling. Postdoc applicants should hold a PhD in environmental engineering, chemical engineering, microbiology, or a related field. Strong writing, oral communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to work independently and in a team are emphasized.

The postdoctoral appointment is initially for one year, with possible renewal based on research progress and satisfactory performance. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Applicants currently in the U.S. are especially encouraged to apply for the PhD opening.

To apply, submit a single PDF with a 1-page cover letter, CV, up to two sample peer-reviewed publications, and contact information for three references. Email the materials to Dr. Kung-Hui (Bella) Chu at [email protected] using the specified subject line. Applications received by 2026-06-30 will receive full consideration, though review continues until the positions are filled.
