PhD and Postdoc Positions in Robotics, Autonomous Systems, and AI-driven Control at University of Calgary University of Calgary in Canada

The Intelligent Dynamics and Control Lab (IDCL) at the University of Calgary, led by Assistant Professor Mahdis Bisheban, is recruiting PhD students and postdoctoral researchers through the Canada Impact+ Research Training Awards (CIRTA). The lab is part of the Department of Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering at the Schulich School of Engineering. Research in the lab focuses on autonomous aerial vehicles, robotic arms, AI-driven control systems, and machine learning for robotics. Projects include developing algorithms for perception, planning, and control of robots in complex environments, as well as optimal path planning for aircraft and advanced controllers for autonomous vehicles and robotic arms.

The CIRTA program funds international and Canadian/PR applicants currently abroad, offering $40,000 CAD/year for PhD students (three years) and $70,000 CAD/year for postdocs (two years). The awards are fully funded and support research in advanced digital technologies, manufacturing, and AI, aligning with the lab's expertise in robotics and intelligent control. The IDCL provides a collaborative, cutting-edge research environment and opportunities to work on real-world problems such as environmental monitoring, search and rescue, and infrastructure inspection.
