About this position

The Nonlinear Nanophotonics Group (NLNP) at the University of Twente, led by Prof. David Marpaung, is offering several open PhD and postdoctoral positions in the field of integrated photonics. Research topics include integrated lasers for portable optical clocks, thin-film lithium niobate (TFLN) circuits for RF microwave photonics, ultra-narrow linewidth Brillouin lasers, and integrated quantum light sources. The group is at the forefront of research in photonics, nonlinear optics, and microwave photonics, with strong collaborations with photonic industries in the Netherlands.

Applicants should have a background in photonics, physics, electronic engineering, or closely related areas. Desired experience includes fabrication of photonic and piezoelectric materials (such as silicon, silicon nitride, aluminum nitride, lithium niobate), nonlinear optics (especially stimulated Brillouin scattering), experimental work on microwave photonics and optical communication systems, modeling or experimental work on lasers and optical frequency combs, and familiarity with optical simulation software (COMSOL, Lumerical, Phoenix Optodesigner).

PhD positions are fully funded for four years, with a starting gross salary of €3,059 per month, increasing to €3,881 per month in the fourth year. Postdoctoral positions are initially for two years, with a gross salary between €3,546 and €5,538 per month, depending on experience and qualifications.
