The University of Geneva, Switzerland, is offering PhD, Postdoctoral, or Senior Researcher positions in the field of long-term national energy scenarios within the Renewable Energy Systems group, led by Prof. Evelina Trutnevyte. The group is part of the Faculty of Science and the Institute for Environmental Sciences. Research focuses on mathematical modeling and technology assessment tools to support the transition to renewable energy systems at various scales, from neighborhoods to continents. The group also works on improving quantitative long-range energy foresight for decision making under uncertainty and seeks system-level socio-technical energy solutions that are both economically and environmentally viable.

Applicants will have the opportunity to work on research questions tailored to their backgrounds and interests, with the umbrella topic being long-range national energy and emissions scenarios for policy making. Potential research areas include applying novel quantitative techniques to analyze large databases of national scenarios, improving or developing new models of national energy systems, and integrating insights from social sciences into techno-economic modeling. The group values multi-disciplinary, modeling-based research at the science-society interface, with regular interactions with policy makers, stakeholders, and the public.

Requirements include a completed or nearly completed Master's or PhD degree, proven knowledge of energy technology, energy systems, energy and climate policy, or socio-technical transitions, and experience with quantitative analysis and energy system modeling (Python or Matlab preferred). Postdoctoral or senior researcher applicants must have peer-reviewed publications as first author. Excellent English skills are essential.
