PhD Assistant in Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation Ghent University in Belgium

Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a PhD assistant position in the Department of Accounting, Corporate Finance and Taxation within the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration. The role is designed for candidates interested in academic research and teaching, with at least 50% of the assignment dedicated to preparing a doctoral dissertation in the field of taxation. The successful applicant will also assist in teaching activities (in Dutch) and contribute to internal and external departmental services.

Applicants must hold a Master’s degree in Economics, Business Economics, Business Engineering, Business Administration, Complementary Studies in Business Economics, or an equivalent diploma by the start of the appointment. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) is required. Excellent teaching and communication skills are essential, and candidates must be able to give presentations in Dutch. Teaching experience or participation in extra training and conferences is recommended. For foreign diplomas in languages other than Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation must be provided.

The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal twice for two years each, subject to positive evaluation. The maximum term of appointment is six years, taking into account any previous appointments as a junior assistant or doctoral fellow within the Flemish Community. The position starts on 1 September 2026 at the earliest. Remuneration is according to salary scale AAP3, and Ghent University offers a comprehensive benefits package including 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and a wide range of training and education opportunities.
