About this position

Ghent University, a leading institution in Belgium, is offering a PhD assistant position within the Department of Morphology, Imaging, Orthopedics, Rehabilitation and Nutrition at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine. This role is ideal for candidates passionate about veterinary sports medicine, rehabilitation, and animal health, and who are eager to contribute to both academic research and teaching.

At least 50% of your assignment will be dedicated to academic research in preparation for a doctoral dissertation, with the remainder focused on teaching activities, particularly in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. You will also assist in the internal and external services of the department, gaining valuable experience in a dynamic academic environment.

Applicants must hold a Master in Veterinary Medicine by the start of the appointment. A diploma of European (EBVS) Specialist in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation is recommended. For diplomas awarded outside the European Union, a certificate of equivalence (NARIC) must be submitted. Teaching experience, participation in extra training or conferences, and excellent teaching and communication skills are recommended. If your diploma is in a language other than Dutch, French, German, or English, a translation must be provided. For UK diplomas awarded before January 31st, 2020, certificate of equivalence is not required.

The appointment is for two years, with the possibility of renewal twice for two years each, subject to positive evaluation, for a maximum of six years. Remuneration is according to salary scale AAP3, and all Ghent University staff enjoy a comprehensive benefits package including training opportunities, 36 days of paid leave, bicycle commuting reimbursement, ecocheques, and more.
