This doctoral position centers on investigating the protective effects of a novel molecule, EF-1, which activates ERBB4 and shows pronounced effects in female mice. The project aims to uncover the underlying causes of this gender difference, contributing to the understanding and potential treatment of heart failure. As a PhD candidate, you will process human samples, establish mouse models, and conduct molecular studies, publishing scientific papers related to your research. You will also undertake limited teaching and support tasks within the Physiology department.

Applicants must hold (or be about to obtain) a Master’s degree in Medicine, Pharmacy, Biomedical Sciences, Veterinary Medicine, or a related field, and possess an excellent academic track record. The ideal candidate is quality-oriented, honest, creative, collaborative, and eager to tackle challenges and problem-solving. The position offers a doctoral scholarship for two years, with the possibility of renewal for another two years following a positive evaluation. The monthly scholarship amount is determined by university rates. As a doctoral researcher, you will have access to a wide range of courses and educational credits through the Antwerp Doctoral School, and work primarily at Campus Drie Eiken in the PhysioPharmacology lab.

Supervision will be provided by Dr. Gilles De Keulenaer and Dr. Vincent Segers, both accomplished researchers.
