The Department of Electric Energy at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) invites applications for a PhD Candidate position focused on the resilient design and operation of decentralized solar photovoltaic (PV) and battery systems. Key objectives include integrating high-resolution meteorological data (solar irradiation, temperature, wind, dust, snow, shading), developing robust methodologies for system sizing, and exploring advanced control algorithms to ensure stable operation under diverse and challenging conditions.

The successful candidate will join the Power System Operation and Analysis (PSOA) research group, which offers a collaborative and inclusive environment with regular professional meetings, social gatherings, and opportunities for networking. The main supervisor for the project is Associate Professor Ida Fagerli, with co-supervisors to be announced after hiring. The position is full-time for three years, with the possibility of additional months for career-enhancing activities such as teaching, supervision, and examination work.

Applicants must hold a relevant Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or an equivalent field, with strong academic performance (B or better on NTNU’s grading scale). Experience in solar energy (PV systems), optimization, and energy system modeling is required, along with proficiency in English (B2 level CEFR or equivalent test scores). Preferred qualifications include programming skills (Python or similar), PV system modeling experience, and prior research or work related to the project topic. Personal qualities such as motivation, independence, effective communication, resilience, and responsibility are highly valued.

The position offers a gross annual salary of NOK 550,800, membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, free basic Norwegian language training, and access to NTNU’s employee benefits. The employment is conditional on funding and requires admission to the PhD programme in Electric Power Engineering within three months of the contract start date.
