The University of Agder (UiA) is offering a fixed-term PhD position in Technology with specialization in ICT, as part of its integrated PhD program. The position is affiliated with the Department of ICT at the Faculty of Engineering and Science, and the successful candidate will be based at Campus Grimstad, Norway. The program commences in August 2026 and is designed for students who have completed the first year of the master's programme in Multimedia and Game Technologies. The integrated PhD program begins with the second year of the master’s, allowing candidates to combine advanced coursework with research training.

Research topics for this position include eHealth and academic eSports, with the possibility to work on projects that intersect both areas. The program structure is unique: for the first two years, candidates split their time equally between completing their master’s degree and working on their PhD project. During this period, funding is provided for the PhD project portion, with a salary of NOK 460,000 per year (50% position). Upon completion of the master’s degree (with an average grade of B or better), candidates transition to a full-time PhD position for the final two years, with a salary of NOK 550,800 per year. All positions include membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, with compulsory contributions deducted according to statutory provisions.

Eligibility requirements include successful completion of the first year of the master’s in Multimedia and Game Technologies, conditional admission to the PhD program, and completion of the master’s degree with a strong academic record. Candidates must demonstrate written and oral proficiency in Norwegian, as teaching assignments at the bachelor’s level may be required. Applicants are expected to work independently, in a goal-oriented and organized manner, and must submit a project outline (maximum 2 pages including bibliography) detailing their proposed research topic, questions, progress plan, and methods. Selection criteria include academic performance, quality of the project outline, previous development or published work, relevant practice, personal suitability, and collaboration skills.
