The successful candidate will join the team responsible for operating and upgrading the ESRF beamline, which features highly brilliant, circularly polarized X-ray beams, cryogenic and high magnetic field sample environments, and state-of-the-art instrumentation. These resources enable orbital-specific determination of local magnetization, interfacial exchange effects, and electronic structure in nanoparticles with exceptional sensitivity.

As a PhD student, you will gain hands-on experience with advanced X-ray spectroscopy, scientific programming, and data analysis methodologies, developing rare expertise in nanomagnetism and biomedicine. The project sits at the interface of materials science, physics, chemistry, and biomedical engineering, offering opportunities to contribute to both fundamental science and translational research. You will be enrolled at Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (School of Physics) as a condition of recruitment, and benefit from collaboration with global experts and a supportive international team.

Eligibility requirements include a degree suitable for PhD enrolment (MSc, Master 2 de Recherche, Laurea or equivalent) in chemistry, materials science, physics, or a closely related field. Prior experience with nanoparticles, magnetic materials, or X-ray absorption spectroscopy is desirable but not mandatory. Proficiency in English (B2 level) must be demonstrated, and compliance with the Marie Sklodowska-Curie mobility rule is required. Candidates must not already possess a doctoral degree and must satisfy conditions for enrolment in a doctoral programme.

The position offers a competitive compensation and allowances package, including financial support for relocation to Grenoble. The contract is for two years, renewable for one year.
