About this position
UiT The Arctic University of Norway invites applications for a four-year PhD fellowship in Pharmaceutics, focusing on the in vitro performance of drug formulations. The position is hosted by the Department of Pharmacy, Faculty of Health Sciences, within the Drug Transport and Delivery research group. This group specializes in pharmaceutical technology, drug transport across biological membranes, and drug delivery systems to improve bioavailability. The research project centers on advanced characterization of nanocarriers, with a particular emphasis on in vitro absorption through mucosal barriers in the airways. The PVPA artificial in vitro model, developed by the group, will be a key tool for estimating passive permeability, and the project will be linked to ongoing externally funded research in pulmonary drug delivery.
The successful candidate will join a vibrant research environment comprising professors, associate professors, technicians, postdocs, and fellow PhD students. The position includes teaching and other duties, distributed over four years, with the main objective of completing research training leading to a doctoral degree. International collaboration is encouraged, and one or more research stays abroad are expected during the project period.
Applicants must hold a master’s degree or equivalent in pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences, with hands-on experience in preformulation studies or formulation optimization, especially with liposomes. Documented fluency in English and the ability to work in an international setting are required. Preferred qualifications include a master thesis in pharmaceutics or biopharmaceutics, experience with in vitro characterization of formulations, development and characterization of inhalation or nasal delivery systems, and proficiency in HPLC or spectrophotometric analytical techniques. Admission to the PhD programme requires a bachelor’s degree (180 ECTS) and a master’s degree (120 ECTS) or an integrated master’s (300 ECTS), with a master’s thesis of at least 30 ECTS (or 20 ECTS for integrated master’s), and grades of C or better. Foreign degrees must be equivalent to Norwegian higher education standards.
The position offers a competitive salary according to the Norwegian State salary scale code 1017, membership in the Norwegian Public Service Pension Fund, and access to the National Insurance Scheme, which includes health care and pension benefits. UiT is committed to promoting equality, diversity, and inclusion, and encourages applications from candidates with diverse backgrounds. The university provides a supportive academic environment, flexible working hours, and excellent career development opportunities.
Applications must be submitted via Jobbnorge by the stated deadline and include a cover letter, CV, diplomas, transcripts, explanation of grading system, documentation of English proficiency, references, and the master’s thesis or draft. All documentation must be in English or a Scandinavian language. For further information about the position, contact Professor Gøril Eide Flaten at [email protected].
