About this position
The Novo Nordisk Foundation Quantum Computing Programme (NQCP) at the Niels Bohr Institute, University of Copenhagen, is inviting applications for PhD fellowships in the Algorithms & Applications section. The programme is focused on advancing quantum computing, with particular emphasis on quantum algorithms for chemistry and life-science applications. Priority research areas include model Hamiltonians for chemical systems, state preparation techniques, schemes for extracting information and observables from quantum computation, and noise modelling of logical quantum circuits. Projects may span one or more of these topics, and candidates are encouraged to develop a project plan that aligns with their skills and interests.
Applicants should have a strong background in Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics, Materials Science, Life-Science, or Medicine, with theoretical and computational skills being particularly important. The position requires a master’s degree equivalent to a Danish master’s degree (two years). Selection criteria include academic performance, relevant qualifications, publications, work experience, professional activities, curiosity, and language skills. The application must include a motivated letter, CV, certified diploma and transcripts, publication list, and reference letters if available.
The NQCP offers a dynamic and international research environment, with opportunities for independent research, participation in active research groups, teaching, and dissemination of knowledge. The PhD fellowship is a full-time, three-year position, with salary and terms governed by Danish agreements for academic staff. The start date is 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. The application deadline is 30 April 2026.
For more information and to apply, visit the official job posting. Principal supervisors include Gemma C. Solomon, Nina Glaser, and Frederik Nathan. For specific questions, applicants may contact the supervisors directly via email. The University of Copenhagen values diversity and encourages all qualified candidates to apply.
