About this position

PhD opportunity in AI and Optimization for Electric Vehicle Charging at the IRIMAS Laboratory, Université de Haute-Alsace in Mulhouse, France, within the OMeGA research team.

The project focuses on advanced optimization methods for smart EV charging systems, including metaheuristics, artificial intelligence, and hybrid optimization approaches. Research topics include EV charging scheduling, energy management, charging station coordination, and scalable optimization under operational constraints.

The selected PhD candidate will work on modeling optimization problems for EV charging infrastructures, designing and implementing advanced search algorithms, developing hybrid AI-based optimization approaches, conducting experimental evaluations and benchmarking studies, and implementing simulation/optimization tools in Python and/or C++.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree in Computer Science, Operations Research, Artificial Intelligence, or a closely related field; strong programming skills in Python and/or C++; knowledge of optimization techniques, especially metaheuristics; and familiarity with AI/machine learning. Experience with exact solvers such as CPLEX or Gurobi is a plus. French or English is required for team exchanges.

Funding: fully funded PhD position for 3 years.
