PhD position in Bioelectronics for Precision Therapies at the University of Groningen (Faculty of Science and Engineering, Netherlands).
This is a fully funded PhD opportunity in an interdisciplinary project at the Bioinspired MEMS and Biomedical Devices Group. The research focuses on developing smart bioelectronic devices for precision therapies and personalized healthcare technologies. The project combines biomedical engineering, materials science, electrical engineering, biology, and chemistry.
Research topics include flexible bioelectronic interfaces, thin-film device microfabrication, cleanroom and photolithography processes, organic transistors, biosensors, conducting polymers, neural interfaces, neuronal cell culture testing, and early-stage in vivo applications. The work aims to create devices that can record biological signals, deliver targeted electrical stimulation, and adapt therapies in real time.
The position is based in Groningen and runs for 4 years (1+3) at 1.0 FTE. The advertised salary is €3,059–€3,881 gross per month, with additional Dutch university employment benefits including an end-of-year bonus and holiday allowance.
Eligibility highlights: applicants should have a Master’s degree in engineering or a related equivalent degree, strong English communication skills, high motivation for academic research, and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary science and technology. Preferred experience includes cleanroom fabrication, electronics, biosensors, photolithography, and semiconductor materials.
