University of Bergen (UiB), Norway is inviting applications for a fully funded PhD Research Fellow position in Digital Sovereignty, Artificial Intelligence, and Media Innovation at the Department of Information Science and Media Studies.

The project examines how AI and digital transformation are reshaping media industries, journalism, media institutions, and media professions, with particular attention to digital sovereignty, global tech influence, political economy, democracy, and innovation. The position lasts 4 years and includes 25% career development work. It is a salaried PhD fellowship with a yearly salary of NOK 593,700 plus annual increases. Applicants should hold a master’s degree in Media Studies or a related field, have strong academic results (minimum grade B or equivalent), and demonstrate strong English writing and speaking skills. Norwegian or Scandinavian language skills are an advantage. The post expects independent and collaborative working ability and a clear interest in AI, media systems, and digital transformation.
