About this position

PhD opportunity in Earth-abundant Metal Photocatalysis and Organic Synthesis at the University of Murcia, Spain.

The research group of Dr. Francisco Juliá-Hernández is seeking a PhD candidate to work on the development of organic synthetic methodologies using earth-abundant metal photocatalysts. The project is based at the University of Murcia (UMU), in the Pleiades-Vitalys UMU Excellence Research Building, and focuses on sustainable synthesis, visible-light and electricity-driven photocatalysis, radical chemistry, and organometallic catalysis.

Research interests and environment: The group combines expertise in organic synthesis, organometallic catalysis, and photocatalysis. The successful candidate will join a multidisciplinary PhD program in Chemistry and work under the direct supervision of Dr. Francisco Juliá-Hernández. The lab is equipped with modern facilities, including fume cupboards, a glovebox, HPLC, GC-MS, and GC-FID.

Eligibility highlights: Applicants should have a Master’s degree in Chemistry completed or near completion. A background in organic synthesis is preferred, and experience in photocatalysis, radical chemistry, organometallic catalysis, or homogeneous catalysis is a strong advantage. The post also looks for creative, motivated, and team-oriented candidates.

Application details: Applications should be emailed to [email protected] with the subject line “PhD position 2026”. Required documents include a one-page cover letter, brief CV, transcript of academic records, and contact details for at least two academic referees. Deadline: 30 May 2026, or until a suitable candidate is found. The start date is expected around September-October 2026, with some flexibility.
