The Universidad Politécnica de Madrid invites applications for a PhD position in Engineering specializing in Artificial Intelligence (AI), Large Language Models (LLM), and Virtual Intelligence. This full-time, permanent position is based at the E.T.S.I. Telecomunicación in Madrid and is funded by the EDF-2024-RA call, Project 101224034 — BATTLEVERSE. The successful candidate will participate in the design and development of a methodological framework for human-centred, explainable AI to support decision-making processes.

The research will focus on the development of advanced AI algorithms, with a particular emphasis on explainable artificial intelligence, large language models, and virtual intelligence entities utilizing reinforcement learning. The project aims to advance the state-of-the-art in AI methodologies that are transparent, interpretable, and tailored to human needs, especially in biomedical engineering contexts.

Applicants should hold a PhD or equivalent in Biomedical Engineering or a closely related discipline, with 4 to 10 years of relevant research experience. Essential qualifications include demonstrated expertise in artificial intelligence algorithm development, experience with explainable AI, proficiency in large language models, and hands-on experience with virtual intelligence and reinforcement learning. Excellent command of English is required.
