About this position
The Spence Lab at the University of Guelph is recruiting a PhD student for a project focused on bridging the gap between equine research and practical management among horse owners in Ontario. The research will use mixed-methods to investigate how horse owners access, interpret, and implement scientific evidence to inform their routine management practices, with the goal of improving research uptake in the horse industry.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative and supportive team in the Department of Population Medicine, working under the supervision of Dr. Kelsey Spence. The position offers a stipend of $35,000 per year for three years, with additional support for scholarship applications.
Applicants should have a Master's degree in epidemiology, animal biosciences, or a related field, strong quantitative or qualitative research skills, and a demonstrated interest in knowledge mobilization and horse health. The project will identify trustworthy information sources, explore the role of knowledge brokers, and examine decision-making processes among horse owners. The University of Guelph encourages applications from diverse backgrounds and fosters an inclusive environment.
Applications are reviewed starting December 1, 2025, and the position will remain open until filled. Interested candidates should submit a letter of interest, CV, transcripts, and references to Dr. Spence.
