PhD in Health & Migration: African Sexual and Gender Minority Migrants University of Oslo in Norway

Call for applications for a fully funded PhD position in Health & Migration at the University of Oslo, based in Oslo, Norway, within the Faculty of Medicine.

The project is part of the HEMI Project and focuses on African sexual and gender minority migrants, with an emphasis on migration, health and wellbeing, support systems, and the links between Europe and Africa.

The doctoral researcher will conduct qualitative research, including interviews, focus groups, and fieldwork in Norway. The work also includes studying migrants’ daily lives, healthcare systems, and policies, as well as publishing research and presenting at conferences.

Eligibility highlights: a Master’s degree is required, with background in Public Health, Sociology, Gender Studies, or Health Sciences. Strong writing, organisation, independence, and interest in migration and minority health are important; experience in qualitative research is a plus.

Funding: NOK 550,800–610,000 salary, full funding for 3 years, plus pension and benefits. Application deadline: 6 May 2026.
