About this position

PhD opportunity in homogeneous photocatalysis at Université de Strasbourg, France. This fully funded doctoral project is hosted at the Institut de Chimie de Strasbourg (UMR 7177) and linked to OMECA Lab, with an ANR-funded collaborative framework involving ENS Paris / PSL.

The research sits at the interface of organic photocatalysis, molecular design, chemical evolution, and machine learning for catalyst discovery. The project focuses on developing a rational and predictive approach to access (iso)alloxazine organic photocatalysts with optimized photophysical and catalytic properties. It also emphasizes structure-property and structure-activity relationships, mechanistic understanding, and tailored reaction discovery.

The doctoral researcher will work on synthesis, spectroscopic characterization, and assessment of photocatalytic properties using techniques such as UV-Vis, fluorescence, NMR, IR, MS, and XRD, as well as high-throughput experimentation. The project is especially relevant for students interested in chemistry, materials science, physics, and computer science applications in chemical discovery.

Eligibility highlights: a master’s degree in molecular chemistry is required, with experience in organic synthesis, photophysical chemistry, and/or homogeneous catalysis. Strong teamwork, autonomy, communication skills, and good English are expected.

Funding: fully funded PhD position; no stipend amount is specified in the post.

Start date: October 1, 2026.

How to apply: send a single PDF by email including CV, cover letter, transcripts, and the names of three referees to Prof. Marine Desage-El Murr at [email protected].
