The research centers on investigating biofilm maturation and antibiotic tolerance on metal surfaces using in vivo chronic orthopaedic device-related staphylococcal infection models. The project integrates advanced in vitro biofilm models and in vivo infection models (including Galleria mellonella larvae and mice) to study biofilm dissemination, immune evasion, and inflammation.

The work is highly interdisciplinary, involving molecular and cellular analyses, and offers strong translational relevance through collaborations with leading research institutes such as AO Research Institute, Montana State University, and University College Dublin.
