About this position
This PhD position at Eindhoven University of Technology focuses on developing advanced fluid models for low-temperature plasmas at low pressure, with direct applications in the semiconductor industry. The research aims to improve the physical description of low-collisionality regimes by resolving the momentum balance of individual plasma species. You will implement innovative modelling approaches in state-of-the-art plasma simulation platforms, such as nonPDPSIM and HPEM, particularly in the context of plasma etching and EUV-induced plasmas.
The project is embedded within the group of Elementary Processes in Gas Discharges, a leading research group in plasma physics at TU/e. You will collaborate with graduate and undergraduate students and benefit from close interaction with industrial partners, including ASML. The research environment is highly interdisciplinary and international, offering opportunities for both academic and industrial collaboration.
Applicants should have a master’s degree in Physics or Engineering and demonstrate programming proficiency (Fortran, C++, Python, or Matlab). The position requires teamwork, motivation to develop teaching skills, and fluency in English. You will spend at least 10% of your time on teaching tasks, with a maximum of 15% per year.
Employment is full-time for four years, with an intermediate assessment after nine months. Salary is in scale P (€3,059–€3,881/month), with additional benefits including a year-end bonus, vacation pay, pension scheme, paid pregnancy and maternity leave, partially paid parental leave, allowances for commuting, working from home, and internet costs, as well as a tax compensation scheme for international candidates.
